have you encountered a couple who could smile and laugh and tease each other non-stop? well sideways did. hmm… and the solemnisation ceremony was not a bit solemn at all. after you guys have viewed through this set of images, you will know what we mean. let sideways present to you the most spontaneous couple sideways have ever met. josh and charlene, you guys have really made sideways their day.
a solemnisation ceremony in the presence of sand and breeze, families and friends.
and sideways was invited (and paid of course) to shoot for our dear friend, zhizhen and her hubby as they exchanged their vows and rings on this romantic night at sentosa beach.
sideways would also like to thank all the friends (you know who you are) for their help on that night. for being patient and keeping still and holding our lighting equipments sometimes, hahaha. things were so much easier to achieve under such low-light situation, with the support from you all.
so thank you all once again and let’s enjoy the images of chris and zhizhen and you guys.
sideways had travelled across the sea and got lifted sky high this time.
for the pre-wedding shoot, not to mention the seasickness, sideways had to try their best to keep their cameras as steady as possible during the shaky yacht ride, and of course, not to vomit. and sideways, despite their acrophobia and claustrophobia, had to find ways and angles to shoot in the confined flyer cabin for the wedding ceremony.
all thanks to kenny and xiaohong who have provided us with such challenging opportunities, which sideways need most at this time, or in fact all the time.
let’s see what kinda images sideways have managed to deliver under such difficult circumstances.
please pardon sideways photographique for not sharing any images for this post, just some words we would like to share before this year ends.
year 2010 has been a tremendous year for sideways, and we could not ask for more. the ratio of weddings we have shoot this year as compared to year 2009 is like 10:1, a 1000% growth if you take it statistically and optimistically, hahaha. we do see improvements in our works of photography, and we are gaining something inside us to become better photographers too. but we guess maybe another main reason for the growth in client base is also because we are one of the cheapest in town. yes we are damn cheap and we charge peanuts because we want to shoot (desperately).
but are we right to say that if there’s no certain value or style in our works, even if we charge you for just $99 for your big day, you won’t take us up?
so is it pure luck that we got more clients this year, or is it we have built up a certain level of quality that is appreciated more by our target audiences, or simply just because we are cheaper?
we can’t judge that solely by ourselves, you tell us.
and definitely throughout the year, there’s some hiccups and screw-ups there and then, but nothing could be perfect we believe. frustration is part of the package and it is your best friend when it comes to learning, it makes you grow. and of course without the opportunities provided by those wonderful couples, we won’t be able to learn and grow.
no doubt.
anyway, let’s not just talk about our works and business here, we wanna share our thoughts as well. it’s really not easy being sideways with our day jobs. we have to sacrifice our free time and sometimes our partners’ free time to work sideways. without that huge piece of support, understanding, tolerance and patience from our loved ones, we won’t last.
no, sideways is not complaining and sideways has not regretted at this point of time. sideways hope and wish that someday, sideways could be full-time sideways - talking sideways, looking sideways, walking sideways and of course, shooting sideways.
it’s either sideways get there or sideways keep trying.
and last but not least to all sidewayers (?!). thank you for patronizing us here, although we know we are not entertaining bloggers or good writers. we love you and we wish you a happy 2011 as it is the beginning of all hopeful things to come. sideways is not going to charge peanuts for year 2011, they are going to charge…

to crown arin as the bubbliest bride ever would be an understatement. along with the cool looking neo, and their gung-ho bunch of brothers and sisters, they provided us with a rampant display of sheer fun and joy throughout the day.
to melvin cho of loud productions, we thank you for the cooperation on the actual day. that truly made the day’s work so much easier.
to the brothers and sisters, we thank you for the sporting behavior throughout the morning session, as well as help rendered to us during the entire day. u guys just re-wrote the definition of fun! two thumbs up for the ‘underwear’ idea, minus the torn one. haha.
and last but not least, to neo & arin, you two just rocked our world.

a simple and heart-warming church wedding ceremony on a fine sunday afternoon. and alvin & junhui make a pair as spontaneous and lovely as sideways, a perfect match like us. haha.
they are the couple who got caught with new zealand’s recent earthquake and aftershock. but their love had conquered all fears and uncertainty and I believe the incident had somehow made the trip an unforgettable one. if you’re interested to read more, please click on the link. but prior to that, i think you would prefer to scroll through for some of the images taken at their wedding day right?
smile and laughter – the universal expressions of delight and happiness. the language that requires no translation.
nothing could flawed a true smile or a genuine laughter, and that’s what this series of pictures are all about. lads and lasses might get worried to smile or laugh with their teeth shown when they are having braces, but our jasmine here has shown us how beautiful she is, even with her braces on. sideways believes that when you are truly blessed with happiness, you are the most beautiful person.
that is sideways’ religion.
a big toast from sideways to our dear friend, zhiqin and his wife, christy. not only for their marriage but also for simply being in love. shall we believe the former won’t last without magic from the latter? of course we believe so, don’t we?
sideways will try to keep this post as short as possible. reason being adrian has stitched up a series of really good images and we decided to let the pictures do most of the talking instead. and also because, brevity is the soul of wit and sideways is definitely witty. haha.
alright, shall we?
to begin with, we would like to wish kvan, the one year old boy a happy birthday, and may he stay good and healthy in the years to come. he’s the first child of a very special couple to sideways and we would like to take this chance to thank this “special couple”. before sideways was sideways and although sideways is nothing yet, we were looking for our first couple to shoot after being inspired by local wedding photography. just sweet and nice, our secondary school friend, peijin and her present husband, aloy were getting married around that period. so sideways did what they supposed to do, they asked for an opportunity to shoot their actual day wedding. and aloy and peijin, being so sweet and nice, said yes and granted us our very first step into wedding photography. we actually asked for nothing in return but we still received a big fat ang bao from them at the end of the day. <– thank you once again, aloy and peijin, haha
however, the pictures didn’t turn up very well. they never complained (most probably because of our friendship) and we move on to take bigger steps in this path.
now 2 years have passed, and sideways was shooting for the first birthday of the first child of the very couple who have let us shoot our first actual day wedding. only this time we didn’t asked for it, we were being requested.
ok anyway, we shouldn’t dwell in too much in this thank-you speech and let it overshadow kvan’s first birthday. so please scroll down further to view some of the images and if you wanna see more, you should know the drill…
man make mistakes and to err is human.
sideways made mistakes, and sideways learnt.
we assumed and we are sorry.
as harsh as the saying goes, assumption is the mother of all *screwed-up.
march-in is always complemented with spotlights and give us adequate lighting to shoot that scene. and yes, we were expecting and anticipating the same this time, ’cause we assumed. so the music played and the crowds raised to welcome the couple. needless to say, as most probably you would have guessed it, our latest couple were marching into the venue in total darkness. despite the fact that we actually brought our lighting equipment along, we were totally caught by surprise and did not have enough time to set it up. thus, causing us to fail to capture that moment. even though we won’t be responsible for the lost opportunity, as our contract has stated. it was totally unacceptable, be it professionally or personally. we hope this really slapped hard on us, so we won’t commit such a mistake anymore and always do the necessary checking.
however and whatever, milk was spilled. cast that unforgiving incident aside, we do have great images to share for clarence and vivien’s wedding day. not enough to redeem our sin but it helps a little.
